The Murderer Who God Made a Preacher

Have you ever felt as though you were too far gone? Outside of the reach of God's grace? Or outside of His desire to reach?

When we've been confronted with our sin and the greatness of God, it's easy for us to think that our sin is too much. It's beyond the line of what God will forgive.

But to that I say, God made a murderer into a preacher.

Ha. God is funny like that. He takes our presuppositions and responds with His lavish wisdom, righteousness, and grace. Sin is a problem. A major one. The biggest one. But it's not too big of a problem for God. He has sent Jesus. Jesus defeated sin and death, giving us the opportunity to receive forgiveness of sin and life in Him.

"But Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord..." (Acts 9:1)

Blinded. Jesus blinded this murderer with the glory of His presence. Saul heard the Lord of those he was seeking to kill speak to him and tell him that He is who they are saying He is.

Then he arrived to Damascus with the help of others. He met up with a guy named, Ananias who said this to him: "'Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus who appeared to you on the road by which you came has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.' And immediately something like scales fell from his eyes, and he regained his sight. Then he rose and was baptized; and taking food, he was strengthened." (Acts 9:17b-19)

What a difference sixteen and a half verses make!

That same man was used by God to start churches and write much of the New Testament. Murderer to preacher. How about that for a career track?!

What About You?

[separator type='transparent' normal_full_width='no' pattern_full_width='' color='' thickness='1' up='1' down='1']

You, yes you, are NOT too far gone.

[separator type='transparent' normal_full_width='no' pattern_full_width='' color='' thickness='1' up='1' down='1']

No. I don't care what you've done.

[separator type='transparent' normal_full_width='no' pattern_full_width='' color='' thickness='1' up='1' down='1']

You're not too far gone. Jesus is able to redeem you from the depths of darkness. God's grace is greater than your sin. AND He has a purpose for your life. Just like Saul, He has something for you to do.

What About Others?

[separator type='transparent' normal_full_width='no' pattern_full_width='' color='' thickness='1' up='1' down='1']

No longer can you say that a person can't change. No longer can you say that a person is too far gone. No longer can you ever couple no hope and a person together.

[separator type='transparent' normal_full_width='no' pattern_full_width='' color='' thickness='1' up='1' down='1']

You see, that's what God's grace does. It changes how we understand God, ourselves, and others. No longer is someone bound by their past. No longer is someone bound by their present. No! Their future can be completely different because of the power and grace of God.

Can You Imagine?

[separator type='transparent' normal_full_width='no' pattern_full_width='' color='' thickness='1' up='1' down='1']

Can you imagine knowing a murderer and then the next thing you know, they are out of prison, preaching the good news of Jesus Christ?!

[separator type='transparent' normal_full_width='no' pattern_full_width='' color='' thickness='1' up='1' down='1']

Well, picture it. Because in the grand scheme of things, we're all in sin just like the murderer. We're all bound up in the prison of our sin, just like the murderer is bound in a prison building. And we all can be freed by Jesus. And we all must preach the good news of Jesus Christ.

Imagine it.

[separator type='transparent' normal_full_width='no' pattern_full_width='' color='' thickness='1' up='1' down='1']

Look in the mirror.

[separator type='transparent' normal_full_width='no' pattern_full_width='' color='' thickness='1' up='1' down='1']

See it.
